The Lockdown Diaries

What we are facing today is an unprecedented event in the history of mankind. While we are all in isolation and confined to our homes, our lives continue even during this standstill. It is the little things that we have started paying attention to - the blossoming of flowers, the clear skies, the call of the newspaperman every morning, the variety of birds flying around us or even the steam coming out of a hot cup of tea in the mornings. A lot of these are moments that we never really had a chance to notice before! 

 

In the words of our Founder Director, Aditya Arya, ‘Photographers are visual historians who are creating visual stories which future academicians are going to use as important source material”. Many have started picking up their cameras to document some of these small, seemingly insignificant and significant moments of everyday life under lockdown. 

 

India Photo Archive Foundation, Museo Camera and Dahuez began the #LockDownDiaries a few weeks back to gather some of these images and give everyone a platform to share them. The response so far has been very encouraging and we have received some amazing images with stories. Looking at the work that we have received, we feel that they deserve a better and bigger platform rather than just posting them on social media handles. And what better way than to showcase them through an exhibition albeit an online one, which is easily accessible to all irrespective of geographical distance.

 

The Lockdown Diaries is not a photo contest, it’s a journal of our times. This is an opportunity to capture what and how you see things around you during this time. The only rule is that they must be clicked within your houses or your immediate surroundings and should not consist of something you have clicked in the past!

We would like to showcase a collection of images that we have received on Facebook, curated by our jury of eminent photographers, on our website. We also intend to create an exhibition with prints of the selected images once things are back to normalcy at Museo Camera.
