Ladakh

After 25 years of journeying through Ladakh my insatiable appetite for Ladakh’s enticing beauty continues. And, I constantly seek newer territories and hidden boundaries in this mystical land.

The light in Ladakh is mysterious & mystical! It glistens, shimmers & dazzles! And, I strive to create with this divine cosmic radiation. All my photography stories use different lighting compositions. I am not an ardent advocate of artificial light. So, my work is created using natural light.

The colour images - close-ups of frozen water & ice - are not merely projections of reality. They are conceptual manifestations, of my being, inextricably fused to the elements that are displayed before me at the time of their creation. Personally, for me, it is critical to create images that will make the viewer have a similar experience to mine, I want my images to have a certain texture, almost be tactile, so that the viewer can visually ‘feel’ my images rather than just ‘see’ them. Thereby drawing the viewer closer into my hidden world in Ladakh.

My Ladakh images are created within the expressive texture of natural elements – snow, sunshine, water, ice, wind. And, because photography is a dynamic medium that has weight & authority to generate intense emotions Ladakh gifts me her hidden stories…..stories which deeply mark my images with emotions & stillness. These visual narratives are my portraits of time.
